Pixar’s animation ‘Finding Dory’, a story on family reunion across continents, has been screened at the White House amid backlash over Trump visa ban.
The animation, which was shown at the White House at 3:00pm (local time) on Sunday, is believed to be US President Donald Trump’s first official movie screening since his inauguration.
The film’s voice actor, Albert Brooks reacted to the latest development in a tweet.
“Odd that Trump is watching ‘Finding Dory’ today, a movie about reuniting with family when he’s preventing it in real life,” Brooks tweeted.
Other celebrities and famous figures expressed their disapproval of the recent Trump visa ban, with protests erupting in cities around the United States.
Trump recently signed an executive order to ban the entry of citizens from seven mainly Muslim nations.
After Trump’s executive order, green card holders, visa holders and pre-approved refugees from countries in the Middle East and North Africa were detained at airports and barred from boarding flights to the US.
‘Find Dory’ tells the tale of Dory – a blue tang fish with short-term memory loss.
As sequel to ‘Finding Nemo’, the Disney/Pixar film also reflects themes of environmental conservation, which critics said is an odd choice for a president who denies the existence of climate change and has claimed global warming is a hoax.
The White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, however, said that while the animation was playing at the White House, Trump was not watching the film.
